Performance Evaluation of a Rice (Oryza sativa) Thresher

A paddy thresher supplied to the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering, Bayero University, Kano Nigeria as part its takeoff equipment for teaching learning was evaluated determine performance indices in terms threshing efficiency, cleaning output capacity, mechanical damage scatter loss. The variables used were two levels moisture content (20% 14%), speed (500 rpm 700 rpm) feed rate at (100 kg/hr 150 kg/hr). factorial experiments run a complete randomized design three replications. Two local Rice varieties Sipi (variety 1) Jemila (variety2) used. Analysis Variance (ANOVA) LSD assess effects independent on thresher. mean values damage, loss capacity ranges from 59.28 – 87.82%, 0.02 - 0.23%, 0.05% 25.26 58.82 kg/h respectively. ANOVA results showed that content, significantly affected 5% probability varieties. Keywords— Efficiency, performance, rice, machine.
